Last man standing

The figure stood on the street, these people walking past him, leading ordinary lives. He wore a black trenchcoat, and a pair of red, circular sunglasses, hiding his eyes. He was expecting someone. He had been expecting her for hundreds of years, and now his wait was over.


*Cue Monica *

Her face was the same, her hair the same color only from the past few generations she’d been changing the styles. Now she had it cut just below her shoulder. The blue sweatshirt she wore was baggy over her white belly-button tube-top. She roamed the streets normally clueless of what she was looking for, she knew that if she kept searching he’d be there. But she’d given up years ago. The girl walked along side an odd boy she’d met at an old job. The new world required money now. With her combat skills she’d been teaching had-to-hand combat to people from ages 8-30 way over her age. She had learn to live without her tail and ears but it was growing more and more hard to keep from changing. The Demon looked to the blond boy who was blushing as she stared. The Boy is very odd, I wonder what he would do if he saw us. She’d been thinking like that for years. Little hope was left since their separation.

The figure turned round and smiled. "Excuse me," He called over to her, barely containing his happiness. "I'm looking for Monica, would you know where she was exactly?" He said, his hands in his pockets. This was the moment he'd sought for so long.

The blond boy turned around and stared at the odd man looking for Monica. The girl right next to him was Monica, was this some sick joke? He glared at him intently. “Oi! Buddy what do you want with Monica?”
Monica turned her body slightly towards Luis and looked to the figure. “I’m Monica.” Her eyes over the years had settle themselves on brown, it looked more normal then scarlet. She felt a familiar pull between her and this stranger. Is this him? No there’s no way in hell.

He grinned, lowering the suglasses and showing a pair of electric blue eyes. "I'll admit, it's been a while," He said, thinking of those centuries where he'd wandered through the streets, alone. He'd taken a job as an assassin, specialising in demons, and ghouls. Things that the population of the city mustn't know about. But that was just to pass the time. And now the time was up.

"Too long, to be honest..."

Luis stepped in front of Monica slightly. "Alright buddy i dont know who you think you are but I swear i'm gunna-"
Monica cut him off. "Luis, calm the hell down." she stared at The man, realization creeping its way over her thoughts. It was him, if she wasn't in front of the most protective friend ever she'd be hugging the man till he was on the brink of death. "Is it really, no, no no no no, i've been looking for. . ." She felt tears welling up but she blinked them back, she didn't want him to see her cry.

"Yeah, it's me" He said, smiling warmly, pushing the sunglasses back over his eyes, then turned to Luis. "Hi! I'm Hal. Don't worry, i'm not here to kill her or anything..." He said, jokingly.

Luis' light blue eyes were still full of anger. he didn't like the looks of the Hal guy, he didn't like the way he looked at Monica. In fact Monica looked like she was about to pin Hal to a wall.
Monica held herself back; the urge to hit Hal was incredibly strong. How could he just suddenly show up now after so many years. She'd spent restless nights scouting the world looking for him. She even killed a few people to find him but it was like he didn't exist. Almost like a dream. She felt her lips form into a smile. “I missed you.” That’s all it took to set Luis off.
“Whoa what?!” Luis yelled. “Who the Hell is this Monica! Why have you never mentioned this freak to me!? To your best mate!”
Monica looked at him, the word mate didn’t have the same meaning anymore like it use to, it meant friend now. How odd the English language was.

Hal laughed. "He reminds me of me!" He said, then put a hand on Luis's shoulder. "Trust me, i'm no threat." He said, then thought for a moment. "Well, not to you anyway.."

Monica laughed slightly, the whole conversation was very awkward especially when she wanted to bumble, and kiss the hell out of Hal.
Luis pulled away from Hal, he knew this guy would be the death of him, Hal seemed like the kind of guy that trouble followed. He knew that Monica could beat the shit out of the guy but he still couldn’t take his mind off of the way Monica was looking at Hal. Luis felt all the blood rush quickly. Monica was his, there was no way this freak was taking her.

"So, Monica, what have you been up to, these last few years?" Hal asked, smiling with the same, understanding smile he'd had all those years ago. He hadn't changed one bit since the laberynth, all those years ago. His only concern was that he didn't feel like starting a fight with this...Luis...but it seemed inevitable. Shame, really...

Monica switched her gaze between Luis and Hal. “Luis, chill. Seriously Hal’s cool, he isn’t some perv.” She smiled. “Well I’ve been teaching wimps like Luis hand-to-hand combat so they can live their lives without getting their asses kicked. And I have an awesome house.” She had found herself speaking like people her age . . . well the age she appeared as. Her features hadn’t changed at all, except she had no tail, fangs, claws, or ears. She wished she had her tail, it’d be wagging more than an excited puppy’s would.
Luis stared from Monica to Hal, this was all very unusual.

Hal tilted his head to one side. "Not a day went past that i haven't missed you." He said, softly, almost in a trance, then paused. "one second..." He said, pulling out a mobile phone and answering a call. "Hello? oh, hi! You'll never guess who i'm talking to just now..." he said, grinning.

The person on the other line of the call smiled. "Who?" He asked, trying to think what would make Hal so excited, then stopped. "Oh my god...is it her?" He asked, having to stop himself from laughing, "wow, put her on! quick!" He said, grinnig widely.

Hal laughed, holding the phone out to Monica. "I think someone would like to say hello..."

Monica looked at him with smile and took the phone and held it to her ear. “Hello?” Her sweet voice almost ringing with happiness. She had missed everyone, the only other person she knew was Scarlet and she was in America at that moment. Something about a gig with her new band. Scarlet had grown to love crazy things.
Luis frowned, “What’s going on?”

"wow, it really is you!" the person on the other end of the phone said, grinning. "Oh, it's been to long! where are you? I'll come over right now!" he said, running down the stairs to his garage, brimming with happiness. "and if you're wondering who it is, you'll have to wait and see!" He said, jumping in to a modified street racing car and starting the engine.

Monica laughed. "Ok? I'll see you soon." She heard the revving of an engine. Her smile spread even wider, a car. She loved cars.

A modified lancer evolution skidded round the corner, a shining blue colour. It came to a halt outside the hotel Hal had been waiting outside, and the driver stepped out, grinning. He had messy brown hair, and cloudy blue eyes, unlike Hal's electric blue eyes, a white hoodie and a pair of jeans. He locked the car, still grinning. He walked over to Hal, then looked over at Monica. "wow..." He said, slowly, "You haven't changed a bit!" He said, then paused. "uhh, i guess i have, though..." he said, looking down in embarrassment for a moment, then looked back up, his blue eyes shining. Hal smiled. "Monica, i take it you remember Bloo?" He asked, gesturing towards the newcomer to the meeting

Monica's eyes gleamed. She missed Bloo, he was the greatest kid. "Bloo! Oh my. . .what happend to your hair, you. . .Scarlets going to hate you." Monica paused for a moment. "Scarlet is in America." she frowned slightly her mind racing she wondered if the Whisperwhinds could still use their powers after all those years. "Hal can you guys still. . .you know." She was afraid to say anything in front of a human like Luis, he'd freak out.

"I suppose..." Hal said, shrugging, then looked over at Bloo, who looked at Luis. "Ah, i see you found a new..." His voice trailed off and he looked over at Hal. "Oh, man..." He said, quietly, and Hall returned the glance. "What?" He asked, then looked at Monica, then to Luis, then back to Monica. "oh." He said, slowly, his happiness slowly draining.

Monica looked at Bloo and Hal, realization taking over her mind. "What? No! No Me and Luis are nothing like that!" She felt confused. How could Hal think that?
Luis looked at Monica shock came over him, Monica didn't like him the way he liked her. His stomach twisted, Monica was with Hal wasn't she? damn that pretty boy is dead he thought his jaw set.

Monica stared at Bloo for a second, "Really? You seriously think that i'd. . . "

"Ehh, it has been a while..." Bloo replied, smiling, but Hal was watching Luis. "Uhh, Monica, your friend might have something to say about your opinion..." He said, warily.

Luis shook his head clearing his throat. "No it. . ." He broke off. "Monica, can i talk to you?"

Monica shook her head. "whatever you have to say you can say it in front of Hal." she stood her ground, she wasn't taking this shit from a blondie like Luis.
Luis' brow furrowed but he sighed and went on. "I thought you. . .uh, liked me?" all the blood ini his body went to his cheeks at that moment, they were glowing more red than a cherry. "I mean i like. . ." He cleared his throat. He remembered when he tried to ask her out once, but he failed and she turned him down many many many times.

Monica was taken aback. "What!?"

Bloo put his head in his hands, and Hal winced. "you...uhh...want me to leave...?" He asked, slowly, feeling sorry for Luis. Bloo leaned on a railing behind him, sighing.

Monica whipped her head towards them. "what? NO! stay." She felt horrible now. Mostly because Hal thought that she'd even think of someone other than him. It was impossible for her NOT to think of Hal. When she tried to give up on him she spent restless nights just thinking of what might have happend to him. She even had nightmares.
"Luis,i-i'm sorry." She looked at her feet.
Luis nodded. "I'm not going to stop trying though, no one can keep this blondie back." He smiled trying to clear up the tention.

Hal looked over at Bloo, who shrugged. He had to admit, this 'Luis' guy was pretty tough-hearted. He looked over at the hotel they were standing outside of, and turned to speak to the others. "I'm staying here for the night. Room 206, feel free to come up if you want," He said, then turned, walking up the stairs and in to the lobby. He walked up to the front desk. "Keys to 206, please," He said, and the mand behind the counter passed him the keys.
