Side Stories: Jaxle

Jaxle sighed. He must look like a complete idiot. He rubbed his head, then threw his shirt back on, feeling stupid. He decided he'd do some target practice, then realised that Piper might think that they were getting attacked. Hmm. Nothing to do. He sighed, deciding to go back to sleep. He lay down onthe couch and did so instantly.

Piper walked back downstairs and took one look at Jaxel and bit her lip. She avoided waking him up by silently walking towards the kitchen. She rummaged around a bit till she found smething that would quench her hunger for the time being.

**Fail.**

Jaxle turned on to his side. He dreamed about back when he was a kid. Only 7. Abandoned, left for dead, walking the streets. An assassin walked up to him, grinning, and raising a revolver.

Bang.

Jaxle woke with a start, yelling. He froze, breathing heavily. that recurring dream. Now he remembered why he didn't sleep.

Piper ran into the room from hte kitchen. She;d finished her snack hours ago and was just staring out the window.
"Holy Shit what happened?" She said rushing to his side. "Jaxel are you alright?"

Jaxle regained his breath then looked round at Piper. "Yeah..." He said, the image flickering back in to his head. He winced. "Just a bad dream." He said, falling back onto the couch.

Piper rested her hand on his shoulder. "Are you sure you're okay?" she asked her light blue hues staring into his. She wanted to be sure he was well enough.

Jaxle stared in to her eyes few second, then nodded. "yeah, i'm fine..." He said, at last. He closed his eyes, knowing he'd have to get back to the city soon.

Piper took a deep breath. "Do you need anyting?" She asked trying to help as much as possible.

Jaxle shook his head. "No, it's fine." He said. that's when he decided it. He'd go alone. He couldn't put Piper in more danger. That would be the last thing he'd want to do. He thought for a moment, then his eyes lit up as he made a decision.

He'd leave tonight.

Piper nodded slightly. Then she saw his eyes.
"What's wrong? What just happened?"

"Hm?" Jaxle said, looking up at her. This wouldn't be easy, mentally. Physically, it was too easy, but mentally...it would be the hardest thing he'd ever done. He stood up, deciding he would chops ome wood for the fire for something to do. A few hours later, he came back, with enough wood to last days. By that time, the sun was going down.

Piper had been sitting in the chair staring at the dying fire. Her eyes hadn't moved, her body hadn't moved from when Jaxel went out to get firewood.
She looked up at him. "Have fun?"

"Yeah, it was great." He replied, dropping the wood on to the small pile of firewood already lying there. "You must be knackered, you can't really say you got a good sleep last night..." HE said, sitting down in his chair. He clicked his fingers and the fire burst in to life.

Piper shook her head. "I don't want to sleep." She said staring at the fire.
"why do you want me to sleep so much?"

"You've been through a lot. Some rest would do you good." Jaxle replied. In his head, he thought about how he should have left last night.

Piper shook her head. "If i sleep i'll have another dream, if i dream i'll have the same dream, if i wake up i wont go back to sleep so there is no point in sleeping." she said very stubborn.

"Well, suit yourself..." Jaxle said, slumping back and closing his eyes, as if he was sleeping. This was bad. Very bad.

Piper shook her head and watched the fire flicker. She pulled her hair over her shoulder and just sat there. She didn't care how long she had to sit and wait for day. hopefully it would come quckly.

Jaxle didn't understand how she could constantly stay awake! He started to drift off himself, and then sleep took him. He dreamed of the gate. Seeing billions of dead bodies, being worked like puppets. It had driven him insane. He awoke with a start, screaming, his eyes wide. He started breathing heavily, shaking violently.

Piper rushed to his side her hands resting on his shoulders. "Jaxel are you Okay?" She asked concern in her blue eyes. She was worried about him. She wanted to help him but didn't understan how.
She looked at his shaking body and bit her lip trying to think. "Calm down, it was just a dream." Her voice was lush and caring.

"No...it was a memory..." Jaxle said, quietly, still shaking. "All those people..." he whispered, and began shaking even more. He still saw the image of the billions of bodies, calling out to him, begging to be freed, then they all began to burn. It would send anyone mad. Jaxle shuddered.

Piper winced. "I'm sorry." She said afraid for him. She saw pain in his face and she remembered the distant pain of the memory of her brother's death.

Jaxle slumped backwards, exhausted. He couldn't keep living like this. He had to end it, but he couldn't with Piper mixed up with it.

*Ok, nn, i'm knackered lol*

Piper looked back at the fire, unsure how she would help. She felt useless, the same way she felt when she'd seen her brother's corps.

*Ugh me too, i'm falling asleep at my computer, i did't get my full two hours last night.*

*lol*

Rigt there, Jaxle made up his mind. Not one other innocent would die because of him. He stood up, silently, walking over to the front door. "I'm going back to the city." He said, picking up his bag, he walked over to the truck, throwing his bag in to the back. He started walking towards the driver's seat of the truck.
